Cabinet hears summary of planned projects for Lower North

The Cabinet has acknowledged the planned implementation of a total of 90 projects for the development of the lower northern region of Thailand.

As part of the Cabinet retreat in the Lower North, the Cabinet convened a meeting with the Joint Public and Private Sector Consultative Committee (JPPSCC) in order to go over 90 development projects which have been drawn up by various ministers following their field visits to Nakhon Sawan, Kamphaeng Phet, Uthai Thani and Phichit provinces.

Among the projects are the establishment of a bio-hub research and development center, the extension of water pipelines to more agricultural areas and the widening of Highway 3212 from two lanes to four lanes for a distance of 3.5 kilometers, which were proposed by the JPPSCC. Water sources and irrigation systems will be developed to sustain local agriculture while feasibility studies will be conducted on the construction of bank protection dams on major waterways, including the Yom and Nan Rivers, to prevent bank erosion and flooding.

In terms of transport infrastructure, truck rest areas will be set up in Phayuha Khiri district of Nakhon Sawan in both directions, along with a truck terminal and a container yard. A new double-track railway system will be constructed to link Tak, Kamphaeng Phet and Nakhon Sawan to the northeastern provinces of Khon Kaen, Nakhon Phanom and Nong Khai for a distance of over 1,000 kilometers. There is also a project to build an elevated dam to enable boat navigation between the Chao Phraya and Nan Rivers, which are situated at different altitudes.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports will be responsible for promoting historical tourism in the Lower North by developing ancient sites, including Phichit Historical Park.
