The Department of Disease Control (DDC) has opened an emergency operation center (EOC) for dengue control during rainy season.
DDC Director-General Suwannachai Wattanayingcharoenchai presided over the launch of the EOC for dengue control and said that the department finds it necessary to implement extra measures to control the spread of a dengue fever which is common during rainy season.
The EOC will be working with all sectors to closely watch cases of dengue spread to prevent the outbreak.
A record shows there have been 13,164 dengue cases during 1 January and 30 May 2018, with 19 fatalities. The statistic shows a rise of patient number from April onwards, with the most common area being in Bangkok and neighbouring provinces, big provinces in the southern region such as Nakhon Si Thammarat, Surat Thani, Krabi, Phuket, provinces in the upper central region, namely Nakhon Sawan, Pichit, Phitsanulok, and provinces in the lower northeastern region, namely Ubon Ratchatnai and Sisaket.
The disease is most commonly found in children aged 5-14 years, with the most fatalities occurring among patients aged 15 years or older.
The general public are advised to seek medical attention, should they experience high fevers for longer than two days, and to refrain from purchasing medicine without prescriptions only to relieve the symptom. Medical professionals are instructed to observe any patients exhibiting signs of dengue in order to diagnose and provide treatments properly.
