The Majority of Thai people agree with the necessity of having a ‘social contract’ to perpetuate peace, unity, and reconciliation, according to the Ministry of Defense.
The comment was made by Defense Ministry Spokesman Lt Gen Kongcheep Tantravanich, who is also chairman of a subcommittee responsible for raising awareness of the social contract drafted by the current administration as part of its initiative to heal years of political division.
Lt Gen Kongcheep said today the majority of Thai people agree that the reconciliation contract will lead to a peaceful society and will end a decade-long political deadlock.
Members of the public have also expressed concerns over some lingering problems such as corruption, individual failure to respect the law, conflicts of interest in government, social and economic disparities, news fabrication, people’s lack of understanding of democracy, the overall educational system, and the management of natural resources.
Lt Gen Kongcheep stressed that the reconciliation process is progressing well because the public is fed up with the political conflicts that have plagued Thailand for over a decade.
