The Election Commission has asked the National Council for Peace and Order to help them plan constituencies for the much-anticipated election.
The EC Secretary-General Pol. Lt. Col. Jarungwit Phumma told reporters today that he is confident the government has heard all concerns political parties have, after their representatives met and presented their issues to Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam this week.
Pol. Lt. Col. Jarungwit said that the EC cannot predict how the NCPO will implement any solutions for political parties’ problems but expect the ban on political parties will soon be relaxed.
He added that the issue, which needs attention the most, is the planning of election constituencies because the preparation may be too late if this process starts only after the law on the election of the Members of Parliament is in effect.
The EC Secretary-General went on to say that, despite some administrative readiness, there needs to be public consultation with members of the public and political parties, which can take up to 50 days to complete.
Therefore, he believes that, if the NCPO allows preparation while the law is yet to come into force, the process will be finished sooner.
