The election of members of parliament (MPs) will require a budget of 5.8 billion baht, according to the electoral commission.
Election Commission (EC) Chairman Supachai Somcharoen said yesterday that commissioners and provincial EC officers are ready to organize a general election, assuring all sides of the EC’s commitment to making the national polls fair and transparent.
In response to politicians concerns about the number of constituencies, the chairman said the number has been reduced from 375 to 350 to conform with the current constitution.
Supachai added that the election of Senators will take place once the the upper house origins bill comes into force.
He estimated that a total of 5.8 billion baht will be needed to organize a general election and 1.2 billion baht for the election of Senators which is 800 million baht lower than the previous estimate.
The EC chairman also noted that the vetting of the six municipal election laws will be completed before the end of this month.
