Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAV) will be deployed to help combat illegal fishing activities in Thailand.
Deputy Prime Minister ACM Chatchai Sarikulya in his capacity as the chairman of a subcommittee responsible for solutions to illegal fishing, on Thursday attended demonstrations of UAV flying at Squadron 106 in Rayong province. The deputy PM said UAV will be applied to help with the government’s operations to combat illegal fishing especially by foreign vessels in Thai seas.
If the UAV detects illegal fishing activity at sea, it will alert the Fisheries Monitoring Center (FMC) to undertake an inspection and the Port In-Port Out Control Center (PIPO) for law enforcement.
The deployment of UAV is a result of collaboration between the FMC run by the Fisheries Department, the Thailand Maritime Enforcement Coordinating Center, the air force and anti illegal-fishing ships.
