The government is preparing to hold talks with political parties at the end of this month. Parties are not yet allowed to engage in any political activities, pending related legislation.
Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan revealed today that he will chair the discussions. However, political parties are not obligated to attend.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Wissanu Krea-ngam has announced that he will hold talks with the Cabinet and representatives of the Election Commission, the Constitution Drafting Commission, and the Council of State. The talks will cover obstacles that political parties face as a result of Order No. 53/2017 by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO). Results of the meeting will be forwarded to the NCPO, before its meeting with political parties.
Dr. Wissanu expressed confidence that the Prime Minister will be able to make a decision on the matter in due course, despite his scheduled visit to Europe.
