Thailand's annual headline inflation rate in May rose 1.49% year on year. The increase was driven by higher fuel prices.
The Ministry of Commerce’s Trade Policy and Strategy Office announced today that a total of 422 commodity products were factored in when calculating the inflation rate. Out of that figure, up to 231 products were sold at higher prices in May compared to the same month last year, hence the 1.49% increase in inflation.
The price increases are the result of more expensive fuels, according to the office.
It also found that the prices of 78 products remained unchanged and the prices of the remaining 119 products went down.
The office confirmed that the current inflation rate is within the target range which reflects the ongoing economic recovery while expecting inflation to keep rising in the near future.
The ministry also assured the public of its measures to keep the inflation rate between 0.7% and 1.7% throughout 218.
