Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) chairperson Meechai Ruchuphan says Thai citizens will cast their votes in February next year.
The CDC chief has expressed his confidence that the much-anticipated general election will take place in the second month of 2019 as promised by Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha.
His comment was made after the National Legislative Assembly had submitted the draft Organic MPs Act and the draft Organic Senators Act to the prime minister who will soon forward the bills to His Majesty the King for endorsement.
He stressed that nothing in the foreseeable future will delay the general election unless there is an unexpected incident which he doesn’t believe will occur.
In regard to the possibility of cancelling primary elections, Meechai said he doesn’t know if a cancellation will happen or if a cancellation would contradict the current charter.
He also declined to comment on a proposal to enforce Article 44 to abolish primary elections.
