The President of the National Legislative Assembly has confirmed that the draft law on the election of the Senate has already been submitted to the government.
NLA President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai says that the draft Senate election law is already in the hands of the government after the Constitutional Court had cleared this draft bill and confirmed it is not in violation of the current Constitution.
Mr. Pornpetch said that the government has 20 days to compile the draft law into a proper book and verify its contents before submitting it for royal endorsement.
For the draft law on the election of the Members of Parliament, the NLA President said that the legislature needs to wait for the official verdict from the Constitutional Court, which is expected to arrive soon.
He added that it is now predicted that the general election should take place in April 2019, but it could also be held sooner and in accordance with the election roadmap.
Mr. Pornpetch went on to say that the draft laws on provincial and local elections have not arrived at the NLA yet as they are still with the Council of State, so he cannot rule if provincial and local polls will happen before the general election as planned by the government.
