The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has resolved to establish a vetting committee to consider any adjustments to the draft National Strategy Act before a voting session is held next month.
During the NLA’s deliberations on the draft National Strategy Act proposed by the Cabinet, Deputy Prime Minister for Legal Affairs Wissanu Krea-ngam indicated that the bill has been drafted in accordance with the Constitution and the 12th National Economic and Social Development Plan to set long-term targets for national development. He said, to ensure good governance and policy continuity, the law will obligate every government to adhere to the existing national strategy, with a possibility for amendments every five years.
Meanwhile, Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office Kobsak Pootrakool explained that the national strategy will help the next government administer the country more efficiently. Comprised of six strategies, it will pave the way for competitiveness enhancement, better quality of life and achievement of security, prosperity and sustainability in the nation.
Most NLA members were reportedly supportive of the National Strategy Bill, believing it is practical and will be useful for future governments. In this regard, the legislature decided to set up a 38-member committee to study the bill in detail before members reconvene on July 6 to cast their votes.
