A vice president of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) believes that the latest rulings by the Constitutional Court regarding draft election laws have provided more clarity to the country’s election roadmap.
The First Vice President of the NLA, Mr. Surachai Liengboonlertchai, said on Wednesday that the Constitutional Court’s rulings to confirm both the draft law on the election of the Members of Parliament and the draft law on the election of the Senate are not in violation of the Constitution, as well as the ruling to clear an order of the National Council for Peace and Order, which is related to changes made to the draft law on political parties, are enabling the process that needs to be taken under the election roadmap to proceed more efficiently.
Mr. Surachai said that the NLA had already received the draft MP election law from the Constitutional Court and is following up on the draft Senate election law.
He added that the Prime Minister will soon submit both draft laws for royal endorsement. The laws will be enforced 150 days after being promulgated in the Royal Gazette.
Mr. Surachai noted that he personally believes nothing will affect the planned general election as all steps are being taken in accordance with the Constitution.
