A move by the Secretariat of the Conference of University Presidents of Thailand (SET Pa) to address concerns raised by parents regarding the new TCAS admission’s system has not placated them, with one group of parents yesterday calling for a more definitive solution.
Parents are concerned that the TCAS system, which allows students to indicate four faculties they wish to study and vets students for admission in rounds, will result in certain faculties filling up prematurely while others may have vacancies that cannot be filled by later students. SET Pa sought to address this issue by adding a second and third round of admissions but parents and guardians believe that this does not address the main problem of students unfairly taking up spaces.
The secretariat has tried to explain that its 3/2 Clearing House round will ensure fairness of access but admitted it may not address all issues with the system.
A meeting of the conference has been called to thoroughly consider the situation, including requests to have medical school groups separated out to an independent system.
