The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) will revoke its ban on political activities after the enforcement of the last two organic election bills.
Deputy Premier and Defense Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan says the NCPO’s ban on political movements will be lifted once the organic bills to do with the election of MPs and the selection of Senators come into effect, meaning election campaigns and party meetings will be allowed 90 days after the two laws have been announced in the Royal Gazette.
In the meantime, the NCPO is considering lifting certain restrictions on political activities, according to the Gen Prawit, asserting that a general election will be staged within the timeframe of the roadmap.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Election Commission (EC) Supachai Somcharoen said today the election will take place as scheduled but there might be some adjustments depending on what occurs in the lead up to the general poll.
Supachai made known that there should be a 3-month interval between the national polls and municipal elections due to the limited number of EC commissioners and working personnel.
