Phang Nga province continues to be affected from storms causing high waves crashing to the shore, damaging buildings of coastal hotels and resorts.
Nang Nong beach in Phang Nga, where many hotels and resorts have been welcoming many tourists every year, continues to facing 3-5 meters tall waves crashing into the shore, causing damages to the sea walls and other temporary structures.
Takua Pa District Chief, Sarawut Tanacharoensakul, and the Mayor of Kuek Kak Municipality, Sawat Tunkeng, led a team of officials to survey for the damage, and report to the provincial governor to keep the area declared as a disaster zone as the situation has yet to return to normal, with more damages from the waves are expected.
Many hotels and resorts have put up temporary sea walls made from sand and rocks as the wave breaker to prevent the sea water from surging into restaurants on the beach. They are now closely monitoring the weather forecast, and strictly advise tourists to refrain from going into the sea during this period.
The Meteorological Department's forecast today warned that the waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand will continue to be rough until 20 June 2018. Ship operators are advised to exercise extra cautions while small boats should stay ashore. Seaside residents are advised to brace for strong waves and to closely follow official weather forecasts.
