The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is expediting the construction of a 1,250-kilometer road tunnel on Phatthanakan-Ramkhamhaeng Road. Now nearing the halfway point at some 46%, the construction is expected to be completed in October this year.
Deputy Governor of Bangkok Chakkaphan Phiew-ngam went to the construction site on Sunday to follow up on the progress of the delayed tunnel project. After the tunnel is completed, the road above it will be resurfaced in December this year.
The tunnel will add two more traffic lanes to the four-lane roadway.
The tunnel construction’s contract started on 21st April 2016 and expired on 10th April this year. However, the construction has been extended by 184 days due to some earlier obstacles.
The deputy governor told the contractor to put people's safety first since Phatthanakan-Ramkhamhaeng Road is very busy. The construction must not cause any problems for pedestrians, he said.
