PM chairs SEPO meeting, urges better care for employees

The Prime Minister has called for state enterprises to revamp their development plans to offer citizens more efficient service while also caring for their own employees.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha chaired the latest meeting of the State Enterprise Policy Office (SEPO), receiving a briefing on the good management and planning report, which was adjusted in 2009 to cover 10 areas aimed at increasing the efficiency of state enterprises. He also heard about progress in the rehabilitation of six state enterprises, with the overall picture one of improvement.

Thai Airways reported better earnings to the office and has drafted a strategy in accordance with the government’s wish to make Thailand a regional aviation hub. The office in turn tasked the carrier with improving its work and service, reducing unnecessary expenses and stepping up the establishment of an aircraft maintenance center at U-Tapao Airport.

Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) presented the meeting with its plan for incorporating more technology into its service while the State Railway Authority presented its 5-20 year route plot, including its management plan for the Red Line and for the creation of an asset management entity, which it will put to SEPO for thorough vetting in June.

The Islamic Bank of Thailand’s report detailed its status over the first four months of 2018, during which it saw both increased income and loans.

The PM confirmed to all state enterprises that they must better care for their employees and must consider the public’s best interests when planning development.
