The Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, at Government House, Bangkok, on Thursday (May 31st).
During their meeting, the Prime Minister commended her role in leading her organization towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in accordance with His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej's sufficiency economy philosophy.
Gen. Prayut reiterated that the government has placed priority on eradicating inequality and reducing social disparity to broaden opportunities. He said the government also promotes equal public access to fundamental services, such as education, healthcare, the social security program in line with the 20-year national strategy, the national reform plan, and the 12th National Economic and Social Development Plan.
The UNESCAP Executive Secretary expressed her honor to take office in Bangkok, and thanked the Thai government for its continued support to the commission.
The Prime Minister affirmed the government’s commitment to support the UNESCAP for the interests and prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region.
