Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha assigned the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to hold more negotiations with pineapple buyers to alleviate the price slumps.
Regarding a solution to the low prices of pineapple, which dropped from 10-12 baht per kilogram last year to only one or two baht per kilogram this year, the premier said it was partially caused by oversupply.
He said the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives will now be negotiating with buyers to buy more produces from farmers, with the pricing situation expected to return to normal next month.
He added he had instructed the MOAC, the Ministry of Commerce, and the Ministry of Interior, to gather a nationwide data on farming yield, domestic demands for consumption, demands from factories, as well as marketing data domestically and internationally, to analyze market capacities, and create references for farmers to plan their expected yield accordingly.
