Residents of Southern Thailand have been warned of possible flooding as heavy rainfall continues throughout this week.
In Phatthalung province, strong winds have knocked down trees and damaged 50 homes in 5 communities in Konghra district. Rubber trees, as well as durian and lonkong plantations, have also reportedly been affected by the stormy weather.
Residents suffering the impact of the harsh weather have been given roof tiles by a local government agency to enable them to mend their homes while damage assessments are still underway. Soldiers have also been deployed to help residents move their belongings to higher ground in preparation for possible flooding.
In Ranong province, flash floods have inundated 10 homes and farmlands in 3 communities in Kapoe district.
In Phang Nga province, a group of local government officers visited Bang Niang Community to survey the damage to the sea wall. Despite being 20 centimeters thick, the wall could not withstand the rough waves. Trees and local business buildings in the area have also been affected by strong winds.
In Phuket province, gusty winds brought down trees and streetlights in Muang, Kathu and Thalang districts. At least 90 homes have been damaged. Provincial Electricity Authority officers were sent to these areas to remove the streetlights to open the roads.
