The Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Political Office Holders has scheduled a hearing in a case related to the rehabilitation of Thai Petrochemical Industry (TPI) and former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
The Supreme Court's criminal division for political office holders on Wednesday announced the decision to accept a case against Mr. Thaksin, who has been accused of malfeasance in the rehabilitation of TPI.
The charge was brought against the former premier by the National Anti-Corruption Commission, which said Mr. Thaksin ordered the Ministry of Finance to administer the rehabilitation process – an action that should have been deemed beyond the authority of the ministry.
The court has scheduled the hearing of a statement from the defendant on June 22. If Mr. Thaksin fails to appear, an arrest warrant will be issued for him and the court will continue the trial in his absence.
This is the seventh case against the former Premier since the 2006 military coup.
