Thai and Malaysian Buddhists observed religious rites on Vesak Day in Betong district of Yala.
Betong District Chief Famrong Deesakul led the Thai and Malaysian Buddhists in the merit making and alms offering ceremony on Vesak Day at Wat Putthatiwat temple in the southernmost district.
Observers offered alms to monks from temples in Betong under the watchful eye of security officials.
Vesak is considered a very important Buddhist event, believed to mark the day of the birth, enlightenment, and death of Lord Buddha. It is observed yearly on the full moon day of the sixth lunar month.
