Tourism Minister meets Chatuchak merchants

The Minister of Tourism and Sports has visited the Chatuchak Weekend Market to obtain suggestions to solve various problems in the market.

At present, the Chatuchak Weekend Market is divided into 30 projects and has more than 10 thousand stands. However, since the State Railway of Thailand assumed its administration in January 2012, and throughout the past six years, the administrative work has not been efficient and a lot of problems arose.

Therefore today, Mr. Weerasak Kowsura, Minister of Tourism and Sports went to the Chatuchak Weekend Market to listen to suggestions from the administrative team of the Chatuchak Market Vendors Service Cooperative and the Chatuchak Weekend Market entrepreneurs to try to solve the problems.

The sellers suggested that the Tourism Authority of Thailand publicize the Chatuchak Weekend Market, and SRT adhere to the law by using the same standards in problem-solving, while the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration should make the public utilities efficient, well organized and clean. As for the cabinet, it should have a consensus to involve the cooperation of three parties, SRT, the BMA and the population, in the administration of the market.

The Tourism Minister said that one matter that can be taken care of immediately is the publicity of the Chatuchak Weekend Market because the task is within the scope of the ministry’s responsibilities. The rest will be presented to related agencies to solve the problems concretely as soon as possible.
