Transport Min to deploy technology to facilitate transportation

The Transport Ministry is determined to deploy technology to connect all modes of transportation and develop a digital logistics system.

Vice Transport Minister Teerapong Rodprasert made the comment during a conference today on implementing technology in the digital transportation era. He said, under the 20 year transportation system development plan, the administration highlights the transition of all modes of transport to a reliance on technology and innovation. The Vice Transport Minister said that the move will provide convenience to commuters. He indicated that the Ministry is ready to deploy several technical innovations, such as the universal ‘Mangmum’ ticket, which can be used on buses and BTS Skytrain and MRT subway. The Mangmum ticket scheme is expected to be operational this October. Regarding road safety and handling traffic, Vice Minister Teerapong said today the ministry would install electronics sensors to identify traffic rule violators.

Furthermore, the Ministry has also invested in several long-term transport infrastructure projects, with an emphasis on implementing technology. In the first decade, the government would increase the capacity of the intercity electric train system, aviation and public transportation, intercity tollways and maritime transportation. These projects are expected to significantly assist members of the public to travel between the country's main cities, while increasing the Kingdom’s transportation capacity overall. In the next two decades, the transportation system is expected to deploy automation widely.

Friday’s conference was attended by various transportation experts from abroad, providing Thailand with an opportunity to exchange related transportation technology ideas with them. The event also served as a platform for negotiations with world leading technology companies that would lend a hand in strengthening the Kingdom’s transportation infrastructure.
