An academic has reassured the public that the structural integrity of Kaeng Krachan dam is intact, dismissing the possibility of the structure collapsing.
Professor Suwatana Chittaladakorn, a specialist of the Department of Water Resources Engineering of Kasetsart University, explained the situation where the water has reached the spillway level but has not reached the full capacity of the dam.
He confirmed today that Kaeng Krachan dam can still handle more water, judging from the fact that the water level at the time of this report is still 3.65 meters away from the critical level. He urges the public not to panic over the rumor that the dam could burst, citing its impeccable structure.
The professor is also of the opinion that Petchaburi province is facing the problem of waterways being invaded by the construction of resorts and houses, disrupting the flow of water heading to the Gulf of Thailand and contributing to the flood issue. He also pointed out that the Gulf of Thailand is currently in a high tide phase, prolonging the water draining process.
