The Cabinet has given approval to members of the public to grow and make use of protected precious wood without having to seek approval from the authorities.
Advisor to the Prime Minister's Office, Nattaporn Jatusripitak said on Tuesday that the weekly Cabinet meeting had approved the amendment of Article 7 of the Forest Act in order to promote the planting of forest for economic purposes, which is in accordance with the government’s 20-year National Strategy.
Mr. Nattaporn said that the essence of the amendment is to allow the public to handle all types of precious wood, such as Siamese Rosewood and Teak, on their own land freely and without the need of approval by relevant offices.
?He added that owners of such trees will also be able to use them as loan collateral.
In addition, when such trees are being grown for export, growers can file for approval to proceed with their business plan, said Mr. Nattaporn.
Meanwhile, he said that the Cabinet has approved the proposal to allow holders of government welfare cards to be exempt from medical service charges as stipulated in the National Health Security Act, B.E. 2545 so that low-income earners will have extra cash to spend on necessities.
