The overall performance of commercial banks has expanded by 5.4 percent during this year's second quarter, according to the Bank of Thailand (BOT).
The BOT's Senior Director for Financial Institutions Strategy Department Daranee Saeju revealed the combined operational outcome of the commercial banks in Thailand in the second quarter has expanded to 5.4 percent, compared to 4.7 percent during the same period last year, particularly due to the expansion of loan credits for businesses and SMEs.
The personal loan credit for consumption has expanded by eight percent from the continuous growth of automobile loans, while the overall crowdfunding from commercial bank loans and bonds has expanded to 5.6 percent, compared to 5.1 during the corresponding period last year.
These data indicate that the quality of credits from commercial banks has been stable and compatible with the economic recovery.
The overall Non-Performing Loans (NPL) has accounted to 2.9 percent, with the NPL debts reduced by 1.65 billion baht.
The BOT has projected the total NPL amount throughout this year will be in the range of 2.92-2.95 percent and will begin to reduce due to the improved economic performance in 2019.
Commercial banks have made more net incomes including those from loan interests, while the commercial bank capital balance has amounted to 2,477 billion baht in the second quarter, accounting for a considerable increase from the first quarter.
