Thailand's Phetchabun province has resolved to develop a local road leading to Phu Thap Boek Mountain for use in place of the main road, which is in need of repair.
After land subsidence recently severed Highway 2331 to Phu Thap Boek between Ban Jowo and Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park, Phetchabun Governor, Suebsak Eiamvijarn, called a meeting with various local agencies to discuss both short and long-term solutions. Initially, the meeting decided to designate Mueang Baeng-Thap Boek Road as the substitute route for motorists heading up to Phu Thap Boek.
However, as the 9-kilometer long local dirt road is rarely used and has been poorly maintained, army officers will be deployed to improve its condition so that it will be usable by all commuters, including teachers who have to travel to and from schools atop the mountain on a daily basis. The renovation work will begin tomorrow.
Governor Suebsak said local highway authorities will, in the meantime, survey the area to find the cause of the land subsidence. He also expressed thanks to officials from Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park and military units for their cooperation in providing assistance for commuters after the road was cut off.
