Many provinces warned of flooding due to heavy rains

People in many provinces are being advised to prepare for more rain and storms in some areas. Those in disaster-prone areas should be vigilant of flash floods.

The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain in some areas in the northern, northeastern, central, eastern and southern regions from 6th-9th August 2018. Waves in the Andaman Sea are expected to be 2-3 meters and in the upper part of the Gulf of Thailand around two meters. Small boats should not be taken into open waters.

As for the water storage situation, there are now more than 701 million cubic meters of water in the Kaeng Krachan Dam with continuous water inflow. People in low-lying areas near the dam are warned of possible flooding.

Water flowing into the Nam Un and Vajiralongkorn Dams is expected to decrease but people who live near the first dam are warned to monitor the situation closely.

The Ministry of Public Health has instructed hospitals in flood-prone areas near dams to prepare themselves to cope with flooding. Medical mobile units are on standby to help the affected people.

On Sunday in Nakhon Phanom, Minister of Labor Adul Saengsingkaew and departmental officials handed out supplies to the flood-affected people at Ban Nong Kut Khaen School. The minister instructed a local administrative organization in one of the flooded districts to help workers there.

In Sakon Nahon, the provincial livestock development department is urgently providing feed to livestock farmers in five districts, and is continuously monitoring the health of affected animals.

In Samut Songkhram, provincial fisheries officers warned fish farmers in the province to prepare for the rising water level of the Mae Klong River after the Srinagarind Dam increased its water discharge rate.
