The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) recently organized a meeting to permit an exchange of opinion on a new electric rail route project set to begin next year.
The meeting was to allow representatives of different sectors to receive details of the Pink Line, a new electric rail route linking Nonthaburi province to Bangkok so that they could share their views on the project. More than 200 members of state agencies, civil groups and community leaders took part in the discussion.
Assistant Governor of the MRTA Sarot T. Suwan, said today that participants in the meeting were updated on studies on different aspects of the project, including the Pink Line’s route, its environmental impact and economic benefits, to enable affected groups to present their ideas and make suggestions to prevent potential repercussions on local residents .
The 2.8-kilometer Pink Line starts from the civic center of Nonthaburi province and ends in Min Buri district of Bangkok. Construction is expected to begin in early 2019 and end in 2021. Fares are expected to range from 14 to 42 baht. The MRTA will consider extending the line to Tiwanont Road in Nonthaburi in the future, if public feedback on the Pink Line is positive.
