The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has ruled that the former director-general of the National Office of Buddhism and his accomplices are guilty of embezzlement.
Secretary-General of the National Anti-Corruption Commission of Thailand, Warawit Sukboon said on Tuesday that the commission has reached a verdict in the case, in which former director-general of the National Office of Buddhism Nopparat Benjawatananun and four accomplices, including three former senior NOB officers and a monk, were accused of embezzling funds allocated for a renovation project in 2013.
Mr. Warawit said that the NACC found all of them guilty of the charge by approving the transfer of parts of the fund to a Buddhist temple in Denmark — an action that went against the regulations of the NOB.
In addition, the NACC ruled that another former NOB director-general, Mr. Phanom Sornsilp, was guilty of embezzling the temple renovation budget in 2015.
