A large number of people flocked to worship the Jao Mae Nang Non shrine at the Tham Luang - Khun Nam Nang Non forest park in Chiang Rai province during the three-day holiday.
The forest park welcomed more than 4,000 visitors between August 11th and 13th, 2018, as the holiday marks Her Majesty Queen Sirikit's 68th birthday anniversary and Mother's Day on August 12th, 2018.
The Tham Luang cave, which is located in this forest park is still closed to all visitors, following the succesful rescue of 12 young footballers and their coach who were trapped in the cave complex for more than two weeks since June 23rd, 2018. However, people can still worship the Jao Mae Nang Non shrine in front of the cave.
The Director of the Conservation Area 15 Management Office, Kamolchai Kotcha, said the area in front of the cave needs major restoration, as it has been damaged from the rescue operation. He said the authorities are using heavy machines to restore the area's conditions and waterways.
Mr. Kamolchai expressed his confidence that the cave will be another tourism attraction of the northern province. It will be re-opened to the general public after receiving an approval from the Department of National Park, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation.
