Citizens in Petchburi province have begun to barricade their homes with sandbags for fear that Kaeng Krachan Dam will overflow this week.
Head of Kaeng Krachan Sub-District Administrative Organization Surasit Buachin has acknowledged that the water level in Kaeng Krachan Dam is critically high and that its water releases have grown increasingly powerful. He said regular updates have been provided to residents of the area with some resorts already being affected by the releases.
Wat Chantarawas, which stands at the lowest point in Muang district of Petchburi province, has reinforced its site with sandbags being supplied by Petchburi Municipal Authority to all residents of the district as a precautionary measure.
Over 100 locals gathered at the Municipal Authority yesterday to prepare more sandbags for use across the district. It has been announced that flooding can be expected from Tuesday (August 7).
Meanwhile in Nong Khai province, rainfall exceeding a hour's duration resulted in a flashflood impacting main roads and streets across Muang district, especially Prajaksilapakom road where floodwater was measured at 30-40 centimeters deep. Drainage into the Mekong River has been stepped up.
The swollen Chi River meanwhile, affecting the Chi Bridge crossing and Tat Noi Dam in Ubon Ratchathani, has led to the erection of red flags to signal critical levels. Over 5,000 rai of riverside farmland has now been hit by overflows and monitoring has initiated.
Water levels in Bueng Kan province however have dropped despite the Mekong River feeding waterways and causing Nong Kud Ting to overflow into some 1,000 rai of farmland.
