Prime Minister inspects water management in Phetchaburi

The Prime Minister has paid a visit to Phetchaburi province to observe the management of water, during which he promised an all-out effort to minimize the impact of flooding on the local people.

After Phetchaburi came under threat of flooding, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha decided on a visit to follow up on the operation of water thrusters at Wat Khung Tamnak in Ban Laem district, which is located in the downstream region of the Phetchaburi River.

The premier explained that the water level behind Kaeng Krachan Dam had previously been lowered, with about 42 percent of the water already discharged. However, the continuous downpours have quickly filled up the reservoir, resulting in an overflow and the current flood threat.

Prime Minister Prayut said today that the government already has flood prevention measures in place, alongside assistance measures for any flood victims. On this occasion, he also offered moral support to local residents and officials working on water management. The premier said the authorities will not attempt to completely drain Kaeng Krachan Dam as a certain amount of water needs to be reserved for the dry season.

During his visit to Phetchaburi, the Prime Minister also inspected the D9 Canal project, which has been set up by the government with a budget of 300 million baht. According to reports, the project has greatly contributed to flood drainage efforts in the area.

Prime Minister Prayut confirmed today that his visit had no political motive and was truly aimed at helping solve problems facing the people. He asked local residents to help improve drainage systems by disposing of garbage properly and removing weeds from waterways.
