The Prime Minister is scheduled to pay a visit to Phetchaburi province on Tuesday in order to follow up on the water situation.
After the high level of water in Kaeng Krachan Dam in Phetchaburi led to a call for more water to be discharged, five districts downstream have been affected by the Phetchaburi River overflowing. In this regard, Deputy Prime Minister Gen Chatchai Sarikulya, in his capacity as chief of the disaster management center, has already visited the province to evaluate the situation.
Similarly, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha will also travel to Phetchaburi tomorrow to check on the province’s management of water as well as flood control measures in a bid to determine how to improve them.
The premier has given an assurance that the dam is still strong and can hold the large volume of water. Nonetheless, in the event of more inflow, he said an inspection of the dam would be necessary to ensure public safety.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Prayut asked the media to present news in a way that does not cause panic among local residents. He suggested they focus on the government’s flood prevention measures and assistance for people in flood-affected areas.
