While a pause in rains has allowed flooding in Ranong to ease, authorities are still monitoring the situation due to more expected rainfall and high sea tides.
Residents of Bang Riw sub-district in Ranong province have begun cleaning their homes after being forced out by flood waters brought on by rain and high water levels in local waterways. Inundation has subsided in the area mainly due to a break in rainfall.
Ranong Governor Jatupoj Piyamputra has led an inspection of the sub-district and passed out necessities to residents. He has ordered close monitoring of the situation in the area as high tides and more expected rain could result in another bout of flooding.
In Uthai Thani province, the break in rainfall has prompted Royal Irrigation Department (RID) officials to step up water releases to 2.3 million cubic meters per day to supply rice crops in five districts. The Royal Rain Making Project in Nakhon Sawan has also been asked to seed clouds above Thap Salao Reservoir to replenish water reserves.
The reservoir is currently holding 54.89 million cubic meters of water, or 34.31 percent of its capacity. Only 37.89 million cubic meters of water, or 26.49 percent of the total, is useable at this time.
