Concerted efforts are being made by many agencies to protect Phetchaburi province from imminent flooding following the overflow of Kaeng Krachan Dam.
Royal Thai Police Deputy Commissioner-General Pol Gen Srivara Ransibrahmanakul, has led authorities from the Marine Police Division, the Border Patrol Police Division, the Provincial Police Region 7, Police General Hospital and relevant units to Phetchaburi, which is currently under threat from approaching floodwaters. The visit was to ensure the province’s readiness to cope with the expected inundation and to aid all affected residents.
In order to support flood relief operations, more than 2,100 police officers were deployed to Phetchaburi beforehand, along with boats, helicopters, fuel and life vests. As the police have been conducting flood emergency drills with the province on a regular basis, all officers involved are expected to be able to work with high efficiency when required.
Meanwhile, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Public Health, Opas Karnkawinpong has convened a video-conference with all provincial public health offices in flood prone areas in a bid to have medical personnel ready for duty in the event of a flood disaster.
As for Phetchaburi, Dr Opas underscored the need to safeguard King Mongkut Memorial Hospital and Tha Yang Hospital against inundation, suggesting the facilities be provided with sufficient sandbags and water pumping machines. Special attention will be paid to bedridden patients and those with chronic illnesses, with a month’s supply of medicines and medical equipment to be reserved for them.
