The Cabinet has been informed by the Ministry of Culture of its guidelines for cultural development in lower northern provinces of Thailand, with an aim to promote culture as an income generator for local communities.
Following the mobile Cabinet meeting in Nakhon Sawan province, Culture Minister Weera Rojpotchanarat revealed that the Cabinet has acknowledged his ministry’s goal to generate jobs and income in the Lower North through the cultural development plan for 2018-2021.
Under the plan, historical sites, religious places, museums, communities and learning centers are set to undergo development while museums of history will be set up in Phichit, Nakhon Sawan and Uthai Thani. The standards of local products will be raised while local Likay artists will be encouraged to form a network in a bid to preserve the ancient art. On this occasion, it was proposed that Phichit and Nakhon Sawan be established as the cities of Likay.
The Culture Ministry has been assigned by the Cabinet to join hands with the Department of Tourism and the Royal Forest Department to come up with details on the project to develop Phichit Historical Park, assess the progress of the cultural market and cultural road and support the continuation of historical excavation in the area.
