The Counter Corruption Division (CCD) has found that up to 340 million baht was stolen during the previous three investigations into the embezzlement of state funds for temples.
CCD Chief Pol Maj Gen Kamol Rienracha said today the CCD is currently conducting its fourth investigation into the embezzlement of the state funds worth more than 1 million baht among 60 temples between 2012 and 2017.
The CCD Chief claimed a certain amount of money was found to have been embezzled although it can only be confirmed once National Office of Buddhism Director Pol. Lt. Col. Pongsaporn Bhramsaneh has lodged a complaint with the CCD.
Individuals who allegedly stole the money were mostly civil servants at the National Office of Buddhism between 2012 – 2017 while they were still managing state funds.
Meanwhile, the embezzled sum of 340 million baht, which was discovered during the previous three investigations, was for expenses related to temple maintenance, monks' education and religious promotional activities. 150 million baht alone was stolen from Saket Ratcha Wora Maha Wihan Temple.
