The Constitutional Drafting Committee is urging the Election Commission of Thailand to speed up the preparations needed for the general election.
CDC Chairman Meechai Ruchuphan said on Tuesday that the National Legislative Assembly's submission of the draft law on the election of the Members of Parliament to the Prime Minister, who will present it for royal endorsement, means the general election will happen next February — the timeline announced by the PM.
In preparing for the national poll, Mr. Meechai said that both the EC and political parties should make use of all the time they have now in designing the constituencies and working on the primary vote as well as the election campaign plans.
For the EC, in particular, the CDC Chairman suggested that all relevant rules and regulations, notifications and announcements should be completed during the 90-day period after the MP election law is published in the royal gazette.
