The Ministry of Commerce is promoting Thai tropical fruit among Chinese consumers in the hope of boosting the country’s exports.
Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Chantira Jimreivat Vivatrat said today that Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce has been in contact with China’s International Trade Promotion Office in Shanghai to promote Thai products especially tropical fruit, as part of the Thai government’s policy to make the kingdom a “Fruit Metropolis” and the world’s kitchen.
The two agencies have co-hosted several activities to promote Thai fruit such as business-matching events between Thai and Chinese entrepreneurs and putting Thai fruit products on the shelves of Chinese malls and supermarkets, which proved to be very successful as Thai fruit exports have skyrocketed during recent months.
Chantira pointed out that tropical fruit such as durians, longans, mangosteens, and mangoes, remain popular not only among Chinese consumers but fruit lovers around the world.
To gain foreign buyers’ confidence, the director-general then urged Thai producers to form networks in their provinces and sell their products through the channels provided by the government.
