The Ministry of Culture is seeking to foster resistance to inappropriate behavior online after finding up to 82 percent of the nation’s youths have engaged in online gambling.
At a seminar entitled “Activity Online: Constructive or Destructive?”, the Ministry of Culture had experts and students exchange views on measures to prevent inappropriate or detrimental behavior in the digital realm.
The University of Thai Chamber of Commerce’s Dean of Communication Arts suggested that during the World Cup, to dissuade youths from beginning to gamble online, parents and guardians should be especially vigilant and discuss the dangers of such activities with their children so that they will understand the games are about sports and fun. The suggestion came as it found over 80 percent of youngsters who try online gambling continue to do so into adulthood.
The seminar also touched on inappropriate broadcasts on the internet’s live channels, acknowledging that the behavior is difficult to regulate and concluding that the best course of action is to immunize children by ensuring they are aware of what behaviors should be avoided.
