The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), under the Ministry of Interior, aims to upgrade the national disaster management system to cover all dimensions, as public disasters are expected to occur more frequently.
The DDPM Director-General, Chayapol Thitisak, said the government has put a high priority on developing the disaster management system, and has installed a new management mechanism to increase its efficiency.
Mr. Chayapol said his department will develop a comprehensive disaster alert system, enhance the potential of its personnel, and expand the communication channels so people can receive emergency alerts and information more promptly.
He said the department will promote participation of all volunteer networks concerning disaster prevention and mitigation, while enhancing local administrative organizations' capabilities to handle disasters.
