Deputy Prime Minister for security affairs Gen Prawit Wongsuwan has asserted that lifting the political activities ban, first requires the completion of another two organic laws.
Gen Prawit said today the ban can be lifted following the promulgation of the organic laws on the Senate and the House of Representatives. The exact date will become more apparent after talks are held with political parties. The deputy premier withheld comment on rumors that many politicians have expressed interest in forming a political party with the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister for legal affairs Dr. Wissanu Krea-ngam said his upcoming meeting with the Election Commission (EC), the Constitution Drafting Commission, and the Council of the State will discuss issues resulting from NCPO Order No. 53/2017 and the Political Parties Act. The results will be forwarded to the NCPO, before its meeting with political parties. He confirmed the meeting will not discuss the EC’s proposal for a primary voting system nor an NCPO order to establish voting districts.
