Thirty fireboats will be deployed in provinces that border the Chao Praya and Mekong Rivers.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is set to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation regarding the use of fireboats on the two rivers.
Bangkok Governor Pol Gen Aswin Kwanmuang traveled to Sam Saen Fire Station to inspect the vessels, which have been brought from storage in Chonburi province. Delivery of the 38-foot long boats cost the BMA 1.6 million baht.
Twenty-four boats have already been transported to a fire station where they will be inspected and repaired. The BMA has estimated the maintenance cost per boat to be no higher than 800,000 baht. The remaining six fireboats will arrive by Friday.
All of them are expected to be operational by the end of September. Twelve boats will be used in Bangkok and the rest on rivers elsewhere.
