Thai authorities have issued arrest warrants for five people who are believed to be involved in the escape of former Phra Phrom Methi, who is accused of embezzling funds reserved for Buddhist temple development.
The five people include three Thai and two Lao nationals. All of them reportedly fled to Laos.
Police investigations have found that former Phra Phrom Methi left Wat Samphanthawong in Bangkok for Phitsanulok and Nakhon Phanom provinces before arriving in Cambodia via Laos. He then flew to Doha in Qatar before changing his flight to fly to Germany to seek asylum.
The Immigration Bureau has reportedly ordered an investigation into the actions of two police officers suspected of supporting the fugitive’s escape.
