The Ministry of Interior has ordered all provincial governors to keep a close watch on football gambling activities during the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and to prosecute those found involved.
The Spokesman of the Ministry of Interior, Nisit Jansomwong, said the ministry is working diligently to prevent all forms of football gambling during the most watched sporting event, which will take place in Russia from June 14th to July 15th this year. Mr. Nisit said gambling is an illegal activity punishable by law and usually leads to other social issues.
The Spokesman said all provincial governors have been instructed to come up with a gambling suppression plan, and to work with security officials to tackle this issue both online and offline, with strict penalites imposed upon those involved, especially among state officials. They will also raise people's awareness on the consequences of gambling.
The Spokesman said the general public witnessing evidence of gambling can report to the officials. Information from these filed reports which leads to actual arrest of violators will be rewarded. Clues about gambling activities can be filed at any Damrongtham Center, or the 1567 hotline.
