Min of Education investigates mismanagement of school lunch program

Education Minister Dr. Teerakiat Jareonsettasin insists that the government is serious about eradicating corruption following complaints over the embezzlement of state funds allocated to a school lunch program.

Dr. Teerakiat claimed the embezzlement of the government’s money for the school lunch program took place before this government came into office. He added the money that schools received, which amounts to 20 baht per student, was adequate to provide quality food for students.

The Ministry of Education has sent a team of legal officers to various schools regionally to inspect the management of the lunch program to prevent graft.

Regarding complaints against 12 schools in Prachinburi, Pitsanulok, Surat Thani, Surin, Lopburi, Khon Kaen and Narathiwat, Secretary-General of the Office of Basic Education Commission Boonrux Yodpheth has already instructed local OBEC offices to investigate.

They will also inspect the quality of food in addition to the management of the lunch program in the best interests of the students.

Thais attend events to celebrate Royal Birthday

Thais from all walks of life have attended events celebrating the 86th birthday anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of the Ninth Reign. Residents of Wiang sub-district of the capital district of Phayao province gave alms to 87 monks at Wat Si Khom Kham, marking the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty’s birthday. ACMECS leaders to implement master plan for 5-year development cooperation

 The leaders of countries participating in the Ayeyawady – Chao Phraya – Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Summit, vowed to implement a five-year master plan for regional development, before the official opening ceremony this morning. The five member countries are Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand, which also constitute the CLMVT cluster. Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha presided over the opening ceremony.
