The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and relevant agencies in Nakhon Pathom province have held a press conference about an upcoming event celebrating Attamee Puja Day, the anniversary of the Lord Buddha's cremation.
Attamee Puja Day celebrations are scheduled for June 5th and 6th at Wat Mai Sukhontharam in Nakhon Pathom. The religious day is observed eight days after the passing of Guatama Buddha.
The two-day event features a simulated cremation of Buddha, a sermon about the Buddha by the assistant abbot of Wat Yannawa, a procession depicting the Buddha's life history, banana trunk-carving demonstrations, folk performances and games hosted by TV celebrities and traditional artists.
Nakhon Pathom province has been the central region's best-known venue for commemorating the anniversary of the Buddha's cremation. The simulated funeral ceremony has been held in Nakhon Pathom for 125 years.
