Thailand's National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has voiced support for the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) in probing weir projects following reports of impropriety.
NCPO member Col Sirichan Ngathong said the body prioritizes action against corruption in all forms and has constantly supported the PACC. She pointed out that Royal Thai Army Commander Gen Chalermchai Sittisat, as Secretary-General of the NCPO, has tasked the Peace and Order Maintaining Command (POMC) with supporting the PACC in investigating complaints and in operating complaint fielding centers, which forward reports of graft to the National Anti-Corruption Center.
Recently, Gen Chalermchai ordered the army look into weir building projects under the Thai Niyom Yang Yuen campaign. A total of 1,097 weirs are being built in 45 provinces across the country. A meeting is being held at the PACC to set out guidelines to ensure the transparency and public benefit of the construction projects.
